'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith resumes clash with City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he remembers the nail-biting dying seconds of Swansea's stunning fightback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. That match culminated with Galbraith briefly donning a spectator's eyewear amid the pitch-side pile-on.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith cracked the upright with a long-range strike from 25 yards, and Cameron Burgess quickly converted the loose ball before racing off toward the East Stand to mark the goal, with the crowd swarming the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

The victory sealed an extraordinary comeback given the team had trailed 2-0 deep into the latter period. In the delirium, there was some collateral damage. The midfielder recalled, "There was a fan sort of calling out and Josh Key and I were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're humans, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

The victory earned a upcoming fixture at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith ran close at the same stage of the FA Cup with the London side in February. The athletic midfielder had arguably the best view when his former team took the lead in stunning style, with Jamie Donley's long-range effort from about way out going in via the crossbar and the opposition keeper. Many argued that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've given it to him for taking the effort on from that far out," stated Galbraith, who played in the middle before moving to right defensive wing after the team changed shape. That meant getting to grips with the England international, with whom he traded tops, and the player was among the Manchester squad who complimented the way his former team approached the match.

Opponent's Class

"Physically they are very good but even the basics and routine actions, they can just do it over and over again," he explains. "It seems as if they complete every delivery and they are adept at dictate and take the sting out of a game. You can feel you're doing well and then abruptly they will just fizz a pass past your midfield without you even spotting it. You have to be focused at all times of the game. It requires a resilient mindset and concentration just to stay in the game."

New Chapter

The club were keen on Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to sign him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He made a name as a fans' favourite across two seasons at Leyton Orient and has quickly achieved similar status in south Wales. At Orient he joined forces once more with Richie Wellens, who earlier gave Galbraith his first extended run in professional games on loan at Doncaster from United. Then came a temporary move at fourth-tier the Manchester club, before he departed Old Trafford.

Learning Curve

"I was likely a somewhat inexperienced going into senior level. I think many athletes would say youth team games is very different. Sometimes it seems the ball is moved without real physicality. There's not many tackles or duels. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adapt rapidly."

Country Call-ups

He has demonstrated that development for his team and nation, shining for Northern Ireland, who are fighting to qualify for the global tournament next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has featured in the last several matches, including both legs games against Germany. His former international manager, Galbraith's previous international manager, gave him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he controls possession and his ability to spot a game-changing assist.

Early Days

This marks an incredible journey for the kid from the local area in his hometown, just outside the capital, who used to see his father, the elder Galbraith, also a engine room operator, play for a local club.

Old Trafford Memory

His single match for the Red Devils came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the Kazakh capital, where they featured on an plastic turf and the arena covering was closed owing to temperatures of bitter cold. "It was a long trip and it was cold out there," he comments, grinning. "The preceding week, myself and quite a few of the young lads worked out jointly, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to join the main group and get a couple of minutes at the end was unbelievable."

Departing Old Trafford

How difficult was it to depart Manchester United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged 16? "It was quite easy, because I got to the stage where I realized I couldn't establish myself at the senior squad. I'm very appreciative for the years at the club but it became apparent where I felt I required a fresh start, move to a lower level and play first-team games. Now I'm steadily progressing again."

Life in Swansea

It is the early part of the afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has somewhere to be at the early evening: a learner's exam, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Before his recent move to Sketty, the young professional was a constant rider in Swansea's dubbed team minibus, a minibus driven by team personnel, the drivers, which shuttles players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"My companions include Gonçalo Franco, another squad member, the midfielder – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's nice to spend time with the teammates but I'm hoping to be the following person to stop using the bus and driving. His teammate likes to pull a few pranks; he's frequently playing tricks."

Fan Interactions

During his time at Orient, Galbraith would blend in with fans on public transport after beginning his trip at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
