Comeback Medvedev Wins Maiden Trophy in Over Two Years

19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden title for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has had a challenging season, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-time trainer Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's initial trophy following the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface from March of 2023.

The win also indicates he has won 21 titles at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his past six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and frequent reactions on court had prompted commentators to doubt if his ability to perform at the highest level was concluded.

But the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform assertively, backed up by an better serve.

The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, winning four of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair swapped service breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his first tour victory, seized the initiative to force a final set.

He saved four initial opportunities in a close final set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured victory with a point at the net, with the Frenchman unable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
